Principal’s Post 05.18.17

Dear SJOA Families and Friends,

I enjoyed seeing many of our SJOA parents/families at Monday evening’s Cultural Arts event. Our students were marvelous in displaying their artistic talents. Thank you to Ms. Funk for all her efforts with students this school year in art class, and for displaying student artwork in the gym for the event. As usual, Mrs. Hatfield did an outstanding job of preparing the students for their various performances; the students were awesome! Thank you also to SJOA parent, Sarah Hargis, for orchestrating the food trucks for Cultural Arts. God blessed us with fabulous weather to eat outside, and the evening was fantastic.

Last week, our 8th grade students, Mrs. Britner, Mrs. Funk, and I participated in our school’s first ever class trip to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C. We left Indianapolis via bus on Monday evening, drove through the night, and arrived in D.C. Tuesday morning. During our three days in Washington, we visited the following historical places and institutions: Capitol Hill, U.S. Supreme Court, White House, Holocaust Memorial Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, National Cathedral, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Mt. Vernon, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Museum, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I offer a big “thank you” to our two 8th grade homeroom teachers, Mrs. Britner and Mrs. Funk, for all their immense planning efforts of this informative trip for our 8th grade students. And thank you, SJOA parents, for your prayers regarding safe travels; they were answered!

A reminder this Friday is our annual Walk-a-Thon and Field Day events. We have a 1:00 p.m. dismissal and NYO Aftercare is open.
