What is RCIA?
The "RCIA" or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process wherein the participant learns about what it means to be a member of the Catholic faith. RCIA does not just focus on knowing about the teachings of the Catholic Church but also emphasizes the lived experiences of Catholic people. Each session focuses on an aspect of Catholic beliefs and provides an opportunity for discussion.
The RCIA process draws on the model of adult initiation from the "catechumenate" (Greek for "someone under instruction) in the ancient church in which it takes place in a series of carefully planned stages; marked by liturgical rites in the presence of the whole community as the adult participants join us in a continuing and deepening conversion into faith and discipleship. These liturgical rites take place during 10:30 Mass on Sundays throughout the process.
