The Lord is never closer to us than in His Sacraments. It is in the Sacraments where we receive His grace in a special and profound way. The Church has been entrusted to be the means where God’s people receive these graces. Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, enable us to join God’s people and begin our journey to holiness. Matrimony and Holy Orders are Sacraments of Vocation which help us grow in holiness by giving us the grace to live lives of love and service. Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick are Sacraments of Healing where God comes to us to heal our souls.
Most Sacraments may only be received by an individual once in a lifetime: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, and Holy Orders. Others, such as Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, may be received more than once. In fact, Pope Pius X once said, “Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven.”
